Mee Mamak or Indian Mee of Penang
Along Jalan Air Hitam, you can find many good Indian Mee or Mee Mamak stalls and there are a few which you must try it out. Different stalls have their own secret ingredients and their own type of sauce preparations and each have their own distinct flavour to suit each one of us.
There is one push cart stall in front of a corner coffee shop in Jalan Satu and another one also on the corner coffee shop in Jalan Dua. Further up Jalan Air Hitam, there is a popular Mee Mamak stall operating from a coffee shop and it is along Jalan 4.
There are two versions of Indian Mee or Mee mamak to order and it is either the " Rebus " or " Goreng " style.
What is added into the Mee Mamak is potato, tau kua ( hard type bean curd) , fritters and sotong. You can either opt for with egg or without egg. This is Rahim Mee Mamak push cart stall along Jalan Air Hitam and operate in front of Success Coffee Shop. This coffee shop is beside Maybank and it is along the busy Jalan Air Hitam on the way to the round about heading either to Paya Terubong or to Penang Hill station.
The price is very reasonable at RM2.20 ( without egg) and RM2.70 (with egg) and it is a simple type Mee Mamak with potato, tau kua & fritters and very delicious. No sotong as the original Mee Mamak is without this ingredients and of course with the condiments of own fried onion is a must to add to the aromatic flavour of the dish.

Mee Udang at Tanjung Bungah
If you are hungry and craving for Mee Udang or Prawn Mee ( Malay version ) and you happen to be in Tanjung Bungah area , there is a stall which serve this and it's definitely very good and highly recommended to have a try !The owner of the Mee Udang stall is Wazi and assisted by his wife which operate from a corner coffee shop in Jalan Chan Siew Teong. This road can also lead you to Hong Hong Printing Company and Leader Garden Condominium in Jalan Chee Seng.
The name of the coffee shop is " Kedai Kopi Kwong Ban Lee " and you would not missed this Mee Udang stall as it is right in front of the coffe shop.
The Mee Udang is very delicious and at RM3.50 a plate, you will have 2 shelled prawns, half a piece of hard boiled egg served with vegetable condiments. There is a soup based type and the fried type but the recommended & delicious would be the soup type, try it !!
It also served " Char Koey Teow " and " Nasi Goreng ". Compare to the price of RM3.50 with other Mee Udang outlet from Teluk Kumbar which is selling at a much higher price of RM12 per plate , this is definitely worth the money.
On certain days , you could have lobster served with the Mee Udang and this is real good and of course you have to pay extra for the lobster chared at per kilo basis. This is local type lobster caught by the fisherman there and please check out with Wazi when you are there and if you are lucky, why not try "Lobster Mee Udang"...yummie...
Wazi can be contacted at 014-9041075 and 016-4719317 and check out with him whether there are Lobster available as the catch is seasonal and limited. The price of a kilo lobster for smaller size is RM50 and RM60 per kilo for the bigger size. Of course, you don't need a kilo but to add in a lobster to the Mee Udang would be heaven food.....think about it...I am calling Wazi now to reserve 2 lobsters for my Mee Udang at Tanjung Bungah.
Thumbs up for this Mee Udang and try it to be convinced !!
